iPad vs iPad 2

You might be thinking about which to choose, the iPad or iPad 2 well here I am letting you know what the differences between the two “pads” are. Below are the basic specifications of the two.

“That’s nice Stephen but what does it all mean?”
Well that’s what I’m here to tell you. I’ll go through it step by step.

So what’s new in OS 4.3?

Whilst the iOS 4.2 was a nifty little operating system 4.3 packs a bigger punch with new features such as.

  • Safari Performance is improved
  • iTunes home sharing
  • AirPlay features improved
  • Parental control for some Apps
  • Preference settings for mute or rotation locking
  • Video & Audio editing Apps (iMovie)
  • HDMI Compatible
  • Improved Message/Call Feature

Does Size Matter?

Yes the iPad 2 is only slightly smaller than its predecessor the real difference is in the thickness. The iPad 2 at 0.34cm thick is around than 30% thinner than the Ipad 1 and also it’s thinner than the iPhone 4 (Now that’s thin)

So what’s new with the processor?

The iPad’s A4 single core processor is easily lapped by the iPad 2’s A5 dual core processor in speed tests it’s shown that the iPad 2 is much much faster than its predecessor.

RAM, what’s that?

Basically what it means is that the iPad2 with its 512MB RAM can run more applications and run them faster. Whilst that might not be an issue on the iPad it does mean that the iPad 2 can run bigger applications with a significantly reduced loading times.

All the colours of the rainbow!

Well not really the only thing new that the iPad2 bring to the table is a dazzling white new cover though this does mean it’s easier to notice dirt and scratches (especially if your kids get hold of it)

Well which one to buy?

Well it’s my opinion that if you already have the iPad then keep it, whereas if you’re looking for your first one then the iPad 2 is the place to go.
